What Interview Questions Should You Ask A Potential Real Estate Agent?

When you are looking to sell your home, you want to find a real estate agent that can handle most of your needs. While it might not be possible to get everything you want out of a deal, a real estate agent should be able to get you the best price for your home, a fair closing date, and a fair commission for their services.

Before you hire any real estate agent, you should interview them to see if they are the right fit for you. What questions should you ask a potential real estate agent during your interview? Here are a few examples of what to ask to get the information you need.

How Many Years Of Experience Do They Have?

One of the first questions you should ask is how many years of experience they have. This will include years of working with other mentor realtors at their agencies, any time spent taking courses, and upgrading their skills and when they opened their own business.

While it's true that new agents can be very successful in selling your home for a great price, the time they have been in business or the amount of experience they have in general corresponds to the number of transactions they have completed. They will have learned about the market ebbs and flows over time and how to sell your type of home quickly and for the best price possible.

The more experience an agent has, the better they can adapt to any circumstance.

What Types Of Sales Do They Have?

This question can cover a range of topics, and you should find out the answer to the majority of them. For example, you should find out how closely their list price for their houses match what the house sold for. This means, did the home sell for close to what it was listed for? If they are able to keep the sales price close to what it was listed for, they have very good negotiating skills and most likely can get you the price you want for your home.

You could also find out which areas do they tend to have most of their sales in? Real estate agents tend to be more successful in certain areas they know well. They understand the type of sellers in any given location and what type of buyers are interested in that neighborhood. If your home is located in an area that the real estate agent has a lot of success in selling their listings in, it could be a good match.

You could also find out what type of marketing they plan to do to sell your home. This will give you a good idea of how successful they could be.
